Understanding LNG Storage Requirements
Storing liquefied natural gas isn’t straightforward. Temperatures drop below –260°F (–162°C), and tanks must handle more than just cold. They are built to manage thermal contraction, control vapor pressure, and safely contain boil-off gas. With LNG playing a larger role in energy supply, industrial processes, and fuel transport, storage solutions must be reliable under extreme conditions.
Not all tanks are created equal. LNG storage often requires double-wall designs, impermeable insulation systems, and single or full-containment configurations. The space between them is filled with a dry, engineered insulation like perlite, which is critical for managing heat leak and controlling boil-off. The choice between single and full containment depends on your site's risk assessment. Our job is to run those numbers with you, ensuring the design aligns with both API 620's low-temperature mandates and NFPA 59A's siting and safety rules before we ever cut steel.
Tarsco delivers EPC solutions for LNG storage projects, managing engineering, procurement, and construction from initial stress analysis through final commissioning. We lead the design and fabrication of the steel tank system and partner with experienced international contractors for the reinforced concrete outer containment required in full-containment LNG tanks. This integrated delivery model, supported by precision engineering, rigorous QA/QC processes, and proven execution capabilities, enables Tarsco to successfully deliver complex, large-scale cryogenic storage projects worldwide with long-term reliability.
Advantages of Our LNG Storage Tank Systems
Tarsco’s LNG tanks are engineered for safe cryogenic storage, structural integrity, and full compliance with LNG safety codes.
API 620 & NFPA Compliance
Our engineering team ensures your LNG storage tank meets the exacting material and stress analysis requirements of API 620 Appendix R for low-temperature service and is fully integrated with NFPA 59A protocols for fire protection and facility siting.
Cryogenic Thermal Performance
Tarsco’s systems utilize engineered perlite insulation and advanced sealing to minimize heat ingress, directly controlling boil-off gas rates and maintaining stable, efficient pressure within the vessel.
Structural Integrity
Steel and concrete components are engineered to handle thermal contraction, internal pressure, and environmental loads. Each tank is verified through rigorous stress analysis and quality control.
Full or Single Containment Options
We engineer both full-containment tanks with a prestressed concrete outer wall and single-containment systems, providing you with options that balance safety requirements with capital efficiency.
EPC Delivery Model
Tarsco manages the full engineering, procurement, and construction process for the steel tank, coordinating closely with partners handling the concrete containment. This approach keeps schedules tight and ensures clear responsibility at every stage.
Long-Term Reliability
We design LNG tanks for decades of dependable service. Precision fabrication, strict quality controls, and full material traceability throughout the engineering and construction process create a low-maintenance storage asset built for continuous, safe operation.
